ENGLISH STANDARD
FOR THE KERRY BLUE TERRIER

BREED STANDARD.
Weight.—
The most desirable weight for a fully-developed dog is from 33 to
37 lbs., and bitches should weigh proportionately less, but 35 lbs. is the
most desirable weight to aim for.
Height.—
Dogs, 18 in. at shoulder bitches slightly less.
Coat.—
Soft, plentiful and wavy.
Head.—
Strong and well balanced with slight stop. Foreface should be
long and powerful jaw strong and muscular, nose black. Nostrils large and
wide.
Mouth.—
Teetb level, dark gums and roof.
Ears.—
Small to medium and V shaped.
Eyes.—
Dark as possible. Small to medium with keen Terrier expression.
Neck.—
Well proportioned, well set on shoulders and moderately long.
Shoulders
and Front.— Shoulders flat us possible with elbows carried close to the
body and never protruding. Chest to be deep.
Legs.—
Straight in front, bone powerful, feet round and small. Toe nails black.
Body.—
Short coupled with good depth of brisket and well sprung ribs.
Quarters.—
Large and well developed with perfect freedom of hind action.
Tail.—
Set on
as high as possible and carried gaily.
Colour.—
Any shade of blue from light blue to dark blue. A shade of tan on head or
legs is permissable in puppies as is also a dark colour up to the age of
18months.
General
Conformation and Character.— The typical Blue Terrier should be upstanding, well knit
and well proportioned, showing a well developed and muscular body with
definite Terrier style and character throughout.
PREPARATION
OF DOGS FOR SHOW.
Ears, neck and
head to be tidied. The body coat to be tidied sufficiently to show the
outlines without robbing it of its natural characteristics. Particular
attention should be paid to the objectionable features set forth below
OBJECTIONABLE
FEATURES.
Coat.—
Hard, wire or bristle coat; coat too short or too long should be
substantially penalised.
Head.—
Bumpy cheek bones, teeth undershot or very overshot.
Ears.—
Rose ears.
Eyes.—
Yellow or gooseberry eyes.
Back.—
Roach back or hollow back.
Quarters.—
Stif.f or stilted hind action.
